Smart Mouse Trap - Humane Mousetrap

Smart Mouse Trap - Humane Mousetrap
This Humane Mouse Trap is perfect for all animal lovers. The Smart Mouse Trap senses when the mouse enters to retrieve the bait and snaps the door shut. The little critter will stay in the trap enjoying his treat until you come and release him in a safe place. To use this easy "no kill" mousetrap simply place a "saltine" cracker in the bait holder, set the trap and check frequently (make sure you check daily or you may starve a trapped mouse). Take the live mouse still in the trap to a wooded or brushy area and open the door and set the little guy free. Escape is delayed until the mouse chews through the cracker. This delay avoids contact between the mouse and the trap user and gives the mouse a little snack to keep him nourished for a while. The Smart Mouse Trap can be cleaned and reused as many times as needed. You'll be thrilled with this quick and humane mouse control. The trap is made of green see-through Kodar plastic & two stainless steel springs work the trap door. Measures 3" x 7" x 2.5". Comes with 1 mouse trap with instructions and booklet about trapping smart mice and mouseproofing your home. Endorsed by humane societies and animal rights organizations in the U.S. and worldwide. Makes a great gift for animal lovers. read more..

Worked as advertised, once I read the instructions by Eric H. Sagalyn
I bought the trap to deal with our one mouse that had gotten into the house when our AC was installed. As soon as I got it, I took it out of the box, dropped a couple of kernels of cheese popcorn in it and put it out. Several hours later the popcorn was gone and no mouse was trapped.

I decided to read the instructions (something I am wont to do).

I found that you don't put the stuff in the trap, you put it in the space between the door you used to let your mouse out. In fact, its supposed to act like a second door: you put a cracker in there that takes up that exact space and the mouse needs to chew through it when you pull up the other door.

I thought that putting a cracker with peanut butter in there, as the instructions suggested would be super messy. So, instead I used a melba toast with a drop of sesame oil. Within 6 hours I had my mouse.

I give this four stars, not five, for two reasons. One: the tail got caught in the door. Sure, the mouse was fine but still. Second, the cracker forming the second door trick didn't work with the melba toast. Guess you need something square like a salteen. Other than that, though, if you've got a sealed up house like mine and aren't afraid of the mouse getting back in, this is a nice way to get 'em.
